The start of Trinity, the three persons of the Christian Godhead; Father, Son, and Holy Spirit

The Christian Festival of Pentecost celebrates the descent of the Holy Spirit on the disciples of Jesus after his Ascension, held on the seventh Sunday after Easter which used to be Whitsun Bank Holiday, but it is now known simply as Whit Sunday. In his sermon at the Morning Service on Sunday, the Rev Alex Wheatley spoke of some of the Christian traditions associated with it. This coming week, we move into the period known as Trinity, the coming together of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit so next Sunday is Trinity Sunday.

Just a reminder that on June 6th, we will see the return of our popular Friends and Family Service which for the first time will be an open air service to be held on St Mary’s Field, weather permitting. More information about this service can be found on our website, Facebook page or posters around the town. We hope many will be joining us on that day! But pre-booking is essential.

Life moves on in St Mary’s and this week will see the replacement of our ancient, crackly sound system, for something which should be much more user friendly and with better sound quality as a real added bonus.

Last week we received early information about the Bishop of St Alban’s Harvest Appeal for 2021. This year it will be supporting a scheme in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, to provide safe, clean water for the communities there. We will report further on this in the week’s to come.
