Summer is Over? Well not quite it seems!!

What a busy morning for the first Friends and Family service last Sunday, following the summer break. Many of our usual participants attended and really enjoyed the craft session with the theme based on the well known story of the houses built on different foundations and how the only one to survive was of course the one built on the firm foundation, a rock bed. Maybe this story of the strong foundations came at just the right time with all the problems with schools and some hospitals! Let us hope that these buildings can be repaired quickly so that they don’t collapse! Children need to be at school, not working at home with too many distractions, otherwise it’s going to be a tough few months for everyone.

Also with us on Sunday, was a Friends and Family party with their young baby who was Baptised in St Mary’s a few weeks ago. They had all come to enjoy the company of church members and the activities that morning. It was a happy occasion for us all and we all joined in a little blessing for this young lady, who was all smiles the whole morning, another young Friend to join in future activities in the coming months, no doubt!

Next Sunday’s service, 10th September, is Holy Communion with the Rector, Rev Alex Wheatley. In the evening there is a NightLight service at 7.30pm, where there will be a warm welcome for all and this month, the theme will be “Everyday Faith”. Refreshments are served at 7.15pm before the service starts.

Future events Potton Seasonal Market. St. Marys frequently has a stall at the Potton Quarterly Seasonal Markets and there is one to be held in the Market Square on Saturday 16th September 9am till 1pm. We need help with the stall by church members for 1 hour slots or more if anyone can do it! If you are able to help, please let Roslyn Tall know and she will coordinate the volunteers.

A reminder that First Steps our group for babies up to School age, will resume each Friday from September 15th, at 9.30am in the church hall, Hatley Road. Call 01767 260430 for more details on how to join.

A new venture will begin on Saturday September 30th and this is our new “Link Café” which will connect the church with the community, so come and enjoy a hot drink and some delicious cake. It will be held in the Community Centre in Brook End, 10am – 1pm. All are welcome.

Finally this month, on Friday 22nd, we are holding a “Back to School Dinner” in St Mary’s Church Hall, 7.15 to 10.30pm. Join us for some specials from our classic school dinner menu and enjoy an evening of nostalgia. Expect some “Tests” during the evening. Open to all ages but children must keep their parents under control! Tickets cost £15 and can be booked by calling Rosemary on 01767 261206. Uniforms encouraged!
