Successful New Style Friends and Family Service!

Rev Alex Wheatley (standing) leads the new style Friends and Family service

What a wonderfully warm morning we had last Sunday, not particularly sunny but bright and dry, just ideal for an open air service on St Mary’s Field. There was a good turnout for the first in a new series of Friends and Family services, so popular before last year’s lockdown caused by the coronavirus spreading it’s ugly wings everywhere. Attendance was limited due to social spacing requirements but it was well attended with many of our old friends returning, and lovely to see a few new ones! The Rev Alex Wheatley led a service, aimed at the children present, of bible stories and children’s hymns and at the end of the service, we sang as we have always sung, the Lord’s Prayer, set to music. During the service, many older members present left for a service of Morning Prayer led by Dawn Kerridge. At this time, the children and “grown up children” were busy using the craft kits made up by the organising team, to make a series of Christian emblems. There were some very good examples produced. At the end, when everyone had returned from the prayer service, the Rev Alex brought the service to a conclusion with final prayers. It had indeed, been a successful morning and it is hoped to do more services in this style. Next Sunday morning, the service in St Mary’s, will be Holy Communion with the Rev Alex.

The quiz night held in the church hall last Friday was a sell out event, for the number of people currently allowed to attend. For those who did attend, it was a great evening with main food served being a rice and chilli dish, served in a mug! Alternatives were provided for the non-chilli eaters! Altogether, the evening raised about £500 which went to church funds. Watch out for future social events, they are always a fun time! The winner of the Murder Mystery Trail which finished on June 7th, will be announced next week.

Services for next Sunday 13th June, Trinity 2. 9am. All Saints Church, Sutton, Matins with Rdr David Kilpatrick. 9am St John’s Church, Cockayne Hatley, Holy Communion with the Rev Alex Wheatley. 10.30am, St Mary’s Church, Potton, Holy Communion with the Rev Alex Wheatley.
