Going to church this morning for what we expected to be a Holy Communion with prayers for peace because of the Ukraine crisis, turned out to be a little more than that. The Rev Alex Wheatley based his service on the letter sent by the two Anglican Archbishops asking everyone to pray for peace today. The Rev Alex certainly made sure that this special service was full of prayers for peace. He did not have his sermon today, instead everyone was invited to come up and light a candle whilst in the background, the Benedictus from Carl Jenkin’s “The Armed Man” played. This is a very moving prayer set to music and really set the scene for the people attending. A really nice service today, let’s hope our prayers along with those from many other churches across the World, will make the difference to this current warlike situation.
We had earlier welcomed some parishioners from St Mary’s Church, Leighton Bromswold, a small village not far from Huntingdon. They had come to see our unique, (for this area), overhead electric heating as they were thinking about installing something similar. They were very impressed with it and are now considering their way forward. It was a good day to come as they also enjoyed Rev Alex’s amazing service of prayer and peace.
