Fun at our Advent "Friends and Family Service" last Sunday

One of the abandoned Children's Craft Tables with the newly decorated Christmas Tree, and the congregation sing the Lord's Prayer, the Words of which are projected onto the big screen. This was the end of the service!

Last Sunday morning saw the arrival in St Mary’s, of a great little bunch of excited children, all ready to join in our Advent service in our popular Friends and Family series of all age worship, but with a huge “fun” element thrown in for good measure. The children love these services as during the service, they get involved in small projects either to take home or be used in one of our services. This week was no exception as the theme was Advent and the children all knew what was coming. Christmas decoration making was firmly on the agenda and lots of nice things were made and many of these were placed on our Christmas Tree, although many others were taken home to decorate the family home of course! Also during the early part of the service, everyone joined in children’s Christmas songs and stories, mainly about that very badly behaved pet lamb, Baaaaaartholemew, owned by the Revd Alex who was conducting the service. The children love to hear about the antics of this naughty lamb. Today he had been eating the Rev Alex’s Christmas decorations causing a vet to be called because he went down with “Tinsilitus”! Will he never learn?

Next Sunday the morning service will be Holy Communion to be led by the Rector, the Revd Alex Wheatley, but he will leave his pet lamb at home for this service.

Our complete Christmas programme has been released and all services, concerts and other events across the Benefice are shown in full detail. This programme can be found on: Our website, under “News”, on our Facebook page and on our Sunday Link weekly newsletter. It will also be found on We Love Potton Facebook page. Please come and join any of our Christmas services, in any of our Benefice churches.

Just a reminder that our Toddler and Baby group, “First Steps” meet on December 9th but this will be the last for this year. The first session in the New Year is on Friday, January 6th and new members are always welcome to the church hall at 9.30am. A small fee is charged to cover refreshments.

Our Craft and Chatter group, meet for the last time this year with a Christmas get together on December 9th, but this is for current members only. If you would like to join this group and bring your handicraft along, the first day you can do that in the New Year is January 6th. More details about this nearer the time.

Just a final reminder that the Parish Christmas Lunch will be held on Friday December 16th at 12.45pm in the church hall as usual. Ticket only, call 01767260193 for availability. Sorry, no ticket, no entry! It is expected that in January, we will present the St John’s Hospice at Moggerhanger, with the proceeds of this year’s lunches which should be over £3000. Over the many years we have been raising money for the hospice, they have told us that the Potton Parish Lunch makes us their highest donor, quite an achievement from the small start that we made in those early days over 20 years ago!
