Back to a Normal Service routine following Easter

Not too much to report this week. The Rev Alex Wheatley was not available to take our service of Holy Communion on Sunday but we had the pleasure of seeing the Rev Gillian Orpin, one of our retired priest friends who stands in for us on occasions. Next Sunday, May 1st, we will be back to our normal service routine and being the first Sunday of the month, this will be our ever popular all age service, Friends and Family. The emphasis of this service is always on the children who come along to sing special hymns for youngsters but mostly to join in with a different craft theme every month and this month our theme is “The Parable of the Sower”. This will help children to understand how we sow seed to get our food and of course, flowers. But this is is one of the parables from the Bible from Matthew 13:3, entitled “ A Sower went out to sow his seed” and the Poster for the service also says there will be a “special treat”! We will have to wonder what that is until the day! We do hope many children will come along once again to this lovely service!

Our Toddlers group, First Steps is back on Friday April 29th , as usual in the church hall at 9.30am. Call Sandy on 01767 260430 for joining details. In the evening at 7.30pm, also in the church hall, a reminder that our Craft and Chatter group, for anyone who enjoys any sort of handcrafting, but likes to chat while they work, then this is the place to be on a Friday evening! There is a small entrance fee but this does include refreshments. Call Bea on 01767 260792 for more details. The church hall is opposite St Mary’s Church in Hatley Road.

We are very sorry that we had to cancel the St Georges Day Medieval Evening, planned for St Georges Day. There were not enough bookings so it will be re-scheduled later in the year. It seems we had a problem with our event publicity which meant many of our regular people who come to our events, did not get the message.

A final reminder that on May 8th it will be St Mary's Annual Church Meeting (APCM) and the Parishioners' Meeting to elect our Churchwardens for the coming year, and it will be held after the morning service that day. All those on the Church Electoral Roll, are invited to attend and vote on items on the agenda.
