A Good Easter after the previous two years of Covid Lockdowns

St John's Church, Cockayne Hatley

Easter is now behind us for another year, a good year for St Mary’s as for the last two years we have been under Covid restrictions so most Easter celebrations did not take place, or were severely restricted. Even with the arrival of our new Rector a year ago, Easter celebrations had to be low impact so it was quite a quiet time at St Mary’s. But this year was certainly different with nearly every Easter service and event taking place as they should be. The main service was of course Easter Holy Communion on Easter Sunday morning. A very large congregation was present and the many children who came certainly enjoyed two aspects of our service which was especially for them. Firstly, a very popular Easter Egg hunt around the outside of the church. This kept them very busy for a while and all of them came back loaded up with many of the little eggs that had been hidden. After that, they placed on our Easter tree, little decorated eggs, hung on the tiny branches of the tree. All in all, a lovely service brilliantly managed by the Rector, the Rev Alex Wheatley, and hopefully making up for not being able to do very much last Easter. Next Sunday, the Morning Service will be conducted by the Rev Gill Orpin, and will be Holy Communion.

Our Groups

First Steps, our Baby and Toddler Playgroup, returns on Friday, April 22nd, after the Easter Break, and they meet at 9.30am in the Church Hall, Hatley Road. St Mary's Annual Church Meeting (APCM) and the Parishioners' Meeting to elect our Churchwardens for the coming year, will be held on Sunday 8th May after the morning service. All those on the Church Electoral Roll, are invited to attend and vote on items on the agenda.
